Dedicated observation when a fire-safety system or condition requires attention
Fire watch may be requested during system impairment, construction, maintenance or another approved condition. The exact responsibilities, patrol frequency, documentation and escalation process must be defined before coverage begins.
Potential responsibilities
- Patrol designated areas at the approved frequency
- Remain alert for smoke, fire, heat, blocked exits or unsafe conditions
- Maintain required logs and communicate observations
- Follow the site’s emergency notification and evacuation procedures
Fire watch does not replace qualified fire-safety professionals, required system repairs or emergency services. Personnel must only perform duties for which they are properly instructed and authorized.
What clients can expect from the planning process
- Review of the site, schedule and reason coverage is needed
- Clear duties, reporting expectations and escalation contacts
- Personnel preparation connected to the approved assignment
- Communication before and after deployment
- Activity and incident documentation appropriate to the scope
- Service review as conditions or client needs change
